Our History
Family Foundations of Iowa Inc. was "birthed" in 2000 by its founder, president and owner, Sandra Siemens. Sandy has worked in the mental health field for nearly twenty years serving in a variety of business and management positions. Family Foundations is the direct result of a dream that was placed in her heart in 1992 by the Dream giver himself. The history of Family Foundations and the future of this company and ministry is a direct desire to fill the God-given dream.
Around 4:00a.m. one morning in 1992 while living in Loveland, Colorado Sandy awoke, grabbed her Bible and a notepad and made her way to a chair in the living room. It was during this early morning awakening that she began to think and dream about a place where people could gather a sort of "gathering place" where not only counseling could be obtained, but a variety of other sources would be available in a one stop setting. She longed for a "gathering place" atmosphere where individuals could go and connect with one another. She began to draw this dream on her notepad (which she still has today). More than just counseling, more than just standard techniques used in counseling. More connection, more caring, more warmth, more calm environment, more about Jesus. She could envision a counseling center, a variety of groups, seminars, trainings, learning times, sharing together. She could see that a bookstore and café would be beneficial to the "gathering place" vision. In addition, a day care center would be necessary so that parents could attend "gathering place" events. A synergy would be present throughout the entire organization. That dream was put on paper in 1992 and continues to be the cornerstone for the current and future purpose of Family Foundations.
In 2000 Sandy took a leap of faith and began the journey of fulfilling the dream that God had placed in her heart. She reports "God would not leave me alone unless I started the dream. I went totally out of my comfort zone and into God's purpose for my life."
Through a variety of wilderness experiences and challenges Family Foundations continues to stand strong as one of the mid-west leading Christian Counseling and Psychological Centers. We have grown from Sandy to a team of twelve and continue adding staff regularly. God continues to expand out territory as we grow in our community and in surrounding communities. We help out those who are hurting and brokenhearted, as well as, those who suffer with mental illness and addictions. Discussions continue in regards to adding the bookstore and cafe', the daycare center and other resources. God will never give you a dream and not give you the ability to make it happen. Family Foundations continues on the journey to fulfill the dream. Keep checking throughout this website to see how God is leading. Dream On.
